The Penrith Panthers have reportedly initiated discussions with hooker Mitch Kenny regarding a new contract as they strive for a fourth consecutive title this season.

At 26 years old, Kenny has played a pivotal role in the club’s recent Grand Final triumphs and has emerged as a

standout performer in the middle of the field following Apisai Koroisau’s departure to the Wests Tigers last season.

Consistently leading the tackle count for the club in numerous matches, Kenny has accumulated 86 first-grade

appearances for the Panthers since emerging from the club’s renowned junior system.

According to reports from The Sydney Morning Herald, negotiations between Kenny and the Panthers have

commenced, with both parties optimistic about reaching an agreement despite interest from the St George Illawarra Dragons.

While the Dragons boast four players – Kyle Flanagan, Jesse Marschke, Jacob Liddle, and Connor Muhleisen – who

could potentially operate as the dummy half in their Top 30 roster, Kenny’s potential acquisition would represent a significant upgrade for the team.

Flanagan and Marschke have primarily featured in the halves throughout their

careers, while Liddle and Muhleisen are more suited to playing as support options off the interchange bench. Kenny’s addition would likely solidify the team’s

spine for the upcoming season, with Tyrell Sloan at fullback, Kyle Flanagan at five-eighth, Ben Hunt at halfback, and Mitch Kenny at hooker.

Kenny is among eight players yet to finalize contract extensions with the Penrith Panthers for the next season,

alongside Matthew Eisenhuth, Luke Garner, Daine Laurie, Ativalu Lisati, Tyrone Peachey, Preston Riki, and Fijian international Sunia Turuva.
