Phil Hay Reveals £600k Leeds United Star player will end of season.

Leeds United will face important decisions regarding several players’ futures in the upcoming summer.

The club has several squad members whose contracts expire at the end of the season, and there hasn’t been any indication that new deals will be offered to many of them.

Ian Poveda, Luke Ayling, and Lewis Bate are among those who may have played their final game for Leeds United, as they are currently out on loan. Whether their performances during their loan spells will influence Leeds’ decisions remains uncertain.

Jamie Shackleton and Sam Byram are two more players whose contracts expire in a few weeks. Both have struggled with injuries this season, particularly Shackleton, and it appears to be an opportune moment for a mutual parting of ways.

Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas, long-serving players at Leeds, are also potentially nearing the end of their

tenure at Elland Road. Reports have suggested several months ago that they would not be offered new contracts.

Given their age and tenure at the club, Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas would undoubtedly prefer to conclude their careers at Leeds if given the choice.

However, Cooper has seen a decline in his role at center-back this season, and it has been nearly two years since Dallas last played due to ongoing recovery from injury.

Financially, it would now be impractical for Leeds to retain either player, with a need for fresh talent becoming increasingly evident.

According to Phil Hay on the latest Square Ball Podcast, Cooper recognizes this reality and understands that his time at Elland Road is drawing to a close.

Hay commented, “I don’t feel it was entirely Cooper’s fault for the two goals [vs Watford], but certainly, the second one in particular was a significant issue.

Cooper is approaching the end, and there hasn’t been any expectation on his part that a new contract will be offered at the end of this season.”

Liam Cooper remains a significant presence in the Leeds dressing room, with recent praise from Mateusz Klich highlighting his off-the-pitch impact.

However, Cooper’s contributions on the field have declined, as evidenced by his performance against Watford last week, his first league start since New Year’s Day. Leeds noticeably improved after he was substituted, and he appeared visibly disappointed when taken off early.

Despite this, there would be no more fitting end to Cooper’s 10-year tenure at Leeds than another promotion, which he has still contributed to. Considering his initial cost of £600,000, he has been an outstanding servant to the club.
