Breaking:Phil Hay clear the air on Kelvin Philips return and Daniel Farke future amid Links to coaching another club next season

Phil Hay clear the air on Kelvin Philips return and Daniel Farke future amid Links to coaching another club next season.

Phil Hay has indicated that Daniel Farke will hold authority over all transfer decisions this summer, including the potential return of Kalvin Phillips to Leeds United.

Phillips experienced the pinnacle of his career in West Yorkshire, progressing through the club’s academy system. A

return to Elland Road could provide him with familiar surroundings, having played a pivotal role in Leeds’ promotion under Marcelo Bielsa.

The defensive midfielder played a crucial role as the linchpin of the team during their promotion campaign and subsequent seasons in the Premier League.

Since his £42 million transfer to Manchester City, Phillips has struggled to secure regular playing time, facing limited opportunities over the past 18 months at the Premier League champions.

Following his January loan move to West Ham, Phillips did not feature in Gareth Southgate’s recent international squad, underscoring his challenges in settling into a new environment.

Since being excluded from the England squad, there have been reports from Give Me Sport suggesting that a potential return to West Yorkshire this summer could be the next step in Kalvin Phillips’

career, particularly if Leeds United secures promotion to the Premier League. According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Phillips would consider rejoining Leeds this summer.

Recent reports from The Sun indicate that Leeds United believes Manchester City would be willing to sell Kalvin Phillips for approximately £30 million.

Discussing the potential return of Phillips to Elland Road on The Square Ball podcast, Phil Hay highlighted the impact of Daniel Farke on transfer decisions at Leeds.

Hay expressed his views on Phillips’ situation, stating, “For Phillips, he was looking at joining the best club in Europe. He knew he was going to win

things there, knew if he played well with [Pep] Guardiola he would probably get better again (after doing so under Bielsa), and it just hasn’t worked.”

Regarding a potential return to Leeds, Hay emphasized the pivotal role of Farke in determining the club’s transfer

strategy, stating, “Whether he comes back to Leeds? I think, if Leeds don’t go up, absolutely not. If they do go up, it will depend 100% on how Farke sees his team.”

Hay further emphasized Farke’s influence, stating, “His is the final say, and that would be the same in the summer. I don’t know what on earth his

thinking would be on Phillips. So, the only thing that I could say in terms of whether that’s an option – it would be down to him.”

Phil Hay went on to say that Daniel Farke has the final say on his future as he is very focus on this seasons target which is to gain promotion back in the premier League
