Sad news: Phil Hay Reveals Leeds first eleven player is ruled out tonight due to ..

Leeds United may have to face Sunderland tonight without one of their standout players, according to Phil Hay.

Despite Leeds accumulating an impressive 86 points from 41 games, they currently find themselves outside the automatic promotion spots with just five Championship matches remaining.

In 2024, Daniel Farke’s team has displayed remarkable form, with their first loss in 15 second-tier games this year occurring last Saturday against Coventry City.

However, for Leeds to secure automatic promotion, they are reliant on Leicester City or Ipswich Town slipping up before May 4th, while Leeds themselves must maintain near-perfection in their remaining fixtures.

Their crucial run-in commences tonight with a fixture against Sunderland at Elland Road, followed by another home game against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Leeds will then face Middlesbrough on Monday, April 22nd, and travel to Queens Park Rangers on Friday, April 26th, before their final game of the season against Southampton on Saturday, May 4th.

Leeds received a positive injury update over the weekend against Coventry, with the return of Ilia Gruev, Connor Roberts, and Wilfried Gnonto to the matchday squad. However, Ethan Ampadu, a regular presence and captain for Leeds throughout 2024, is a major doubt for tonight’s game against Sunderland.

This absence will be a significant concern for Leeds, as Ampadu has played every minute of Championship action this season, excelling both in midfield and defense. He has formed a strong partnership with fellow Wales international Joe Rodon at center-back since Pascal Struijk’s injury, making his potential absence a substantial setback.

Farke had previously praised Ampadu’s performance during his first season at Leeds, highlighting his exceptional development and impact on the team despite his challenging years prior to joining the club.
