Breaking News:Phil Hay Reveals Leeds stance on CAS appeal that will be released today

Leeds United have decided to drop their appeal with CAS regarding FIFA’s decision that they owe £24.5m for Jean-Kevin Augustin, as reported by The Athletic. They backed out of a permanent deal for the winger after he lost favor,

but ended up losing a legal battle, leaving them obligated to pay RB Leipzig the entire transfer fee when their argument was dismissed.

Augustin pursued a separate claim for lost earnings, with both clubs agreeing to a five-year deal worth £93,000 per week. FIFA partially sided with the player,

granting him £24.5m in compensation. Leeds appealed this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). However, CAS has confirmed that Leeds withdrew their appeal, and there will be no

hearing. Phil Hay shared on Twitter that the club has chosen not to comment on

the matter, leaving it uncertain if they are now obligated to pay the full amount.

The club declined to comment when asked about the withdrawal of the appeal and whether they are still liable for the original £24.5m bill.

It remains uncertain if Leeds’ decision to withdraw the appeal means they are now committed to paying Augustin the full awarded amount.

The total cost will amount to approximately £40m for a player who

only played 48 minutes for Leeds before being transferred out, but despite this, it’s the correct choice. Resolving the

situation now enables the club to plan effectively and move forward financially, finally bringing an end to this prolonged saga.
