Meister in Arlington, Texas, conducted the surgery, focusing on repairing the ulnar collateral ligament in Strider’s

right elbow using an internal brace. The news of Strider’s surgery comes as a significant setback for the Atlanta Braves, given his status as an electrifying

pitcher within MLB. Both his teammates and fans are undoubtedly hoping for a swift and successful recovery.

Although this surgery shares similarities with Tommy John surgery, it represents a modified version aimed at reducing the

risk of future injury. Notably, the recovery period is expected to be shorter. The procedure involves utilizing

a player’s own muscle and materials to stimulate the ligament’s regrowth, without the need for ligaments sourced from cadavers or other parts of the body.

The 2024 season has been marred by a series of early injuries, predominantly affecting pitchers’ arms. Strider’s

absence for the remainder of the season undoubtedly comes as a significant disappointment and setback for the Braves.

Losing a star ace is always a tough blow for any team, and it’s certainly a setback

for baseball as a whole, as the sport thrives on having its top talents on the field. The prevalence of injuries among

pitchers this season has been concerning, and it’s disheartening to witness such talented players sidelined. Hopefully, Strider can make a full recovery and

Following his injury, Strider wasted no time in seeking medical advice,

undergoing imaging before consulting with a doctor to determine the best course of action. Last season, Strider

showcased his talent on the mound, tallying a remarkable 20-5 record with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. Additionally,

he set a franchise record with 281 strikeouts in 186 2/3 innings, and he achieved the milestone of fastest to 200

strikeouts in both of his MLB seasons. Remarkably, Strider’s journey to the majors was swift, as he was selected by

the Braves in the fourth round of the 2020 draft and quickly earned his place in MLB after only 22 minor-league games.

Strider is not the lone pitcher sidelined for the season due to an arm injury. Players like Cleveland’s Shane Bieber, the New York Yankees’ Jonathan Loaisiga,

Miami’s Eury Pérez, and Oakland’s Trevor Gott have also been diagnosed with elbow injuries. The exact timetable for Strider’s return in 2025 remains

uncertain. Given that his surgery involves a relatively new procedure using an internal brace, the recovery timeline is not as established as the

typical 13-15 months seen in Tommy John rehabilitation. However, the potential for shorter recovery times

associated with brace surgeries suggests that Strider could potentially make a comeback in time for Opening Day 2025.
