Very bad news: Panthers star player is over due to injury

Penrith Panthers’ star halfback and captain, Nathan Cleary, has encountered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, Cleary is still a few weeks away from making his comeback and is in a race against time to be fit for the clash against the Wests Tigers in Bathurst next week.

This development comes as Cleary’s progress has not been as rapid as the club had hoped. Consequently, he is now targeting the subsequent round to return, facing off against the North Queensland Cowboys.

The two-time Clive Churchill Medal winner suffered the hamstring injury during a match against the Brisbane Broncos earlier this season, in a rematch of the 2023 Grand Final.

This marks Cleary’s second hamstring injury in recent times, following his absence from the final two State of Origin games last year due to a left hamstring  strain.

“Yeah… we’re up against Manly this week, and then we have a bye,” Cleary mentioned on Channel 9 when discussing the injury in late March.

“It’s a minor hamstring tear, definitely not as severe as last year’s. It’s similar to what happened before the actual tear last year, but it’s on the other leg this time.

“I’ve been discussing with the physio on how to manage it effectively. If it were a grand final last week, I could have played. It’s all about managing the workload, especially with extras and kicking. It’s something I never really had to worry about growing up; I always enjoyed it.

“Last year, I started experiencing a few niggles here and there. Now, it’s more about mental preparation and planning my week accordingly.”
