Sad News:Nuno Espirito Santo’s real battle to avoid premier League relegation

Injuries and player absences have plagued Nottingham Forest throughout the season, with the absence of Willy Boly particularly keenly felt by the team. The centre-back sustained an injury while representing Ivory Coast last month and has been sidelined since then. Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted uncertainty regarding Boly’s return to action.

The impact of Boly’s absence was a focal point of discussion on the Garibaldi Red

podcast by NottinghamshireLive this week, especially concerning set-piece situations. This topic arose following

Forest’s 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, during which Matheus Cunha scored his second goal of the

match from a corner, highlighting Forest’s league-high tally of 22 goals conceded from dead-ball situations.

Forest supporter Max Scott addressed the team’s vulnerability in set-piece scenarios, stressing the need for

accountability among players and coaching staff alike. Scott emphasized the importance of on-field leadership

and called for players to take charge and adapt tactics if the current approach proves ineffective. He also highlighted the absence of vocal leaders in the squad,

citing the youth and newness of some players as potential barriers to assuming such roles.

Scott expressed frustration and embarrassment over Forest’s

susceptibility to conceding goals from set-pieces, noting the negative impact it

has on the team’s morale and perception among both home and opposition fans. He described a sense of inevitability whenever Forest concede a corner,

indicating a pressing need for improvement in this area to restore confidence and competitiveness to the team.

I believe the issue isn’t due to a lack of effort or determination. It’s simply a matter of not meeting the required

standard. However, stating that the situation needs to be addressed is stating the obvious.”

Forest fan Dave Astbury chimed in, saying: “I think having more game time for Willy Boly would have made a

significant difference. I recently watched a video where Chris Wood was asked to describe his teammates in one word.

When he got to Willy Boly, he simply said ‘father.’ This suggests that Willy is seen as a leader within the group.

“The last time Willy played was against Luton. In that match, Willy performed

exceptionally well, and we seemed much more composed defensively. Willy brings a sense of calmness to the backline.

“Although Willy may not be at his peak, he utilizes his experience effectively. On that day against Luton, until Willy was

substituted, we looked extremely solid defensively. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen him on the pitch since then.

“I believe Willy has a keen understanding of the game, which is

often underestimated. He is also strong in aerial duels and has generally been reliable whenever he’s played. However,

like several of our players, he has spent more time on the treatment table than on the field.”
