Sad News :Rabbitohs hooker Damien reveals Tension in Rabbitohs

Rabbitohs hooker Damien Cook expressed that his return to NSW Cup action after eight years was an enjoyable experience, following his unexpected demotion from first-grade by under-fire coach Jason Demetriou.

In a bold move aimed at shaking up the team and salvaging his coaching position, Demetriou implemented

significant changes, including fielding a revamped lineup featuring debutant Jye Gray. Despite their efforts, the team fell

short in a hard-fought 34-22 loss to the Sharks, which was marred by several injuries to South Sydney players.

One of the most notable decisions by Demetriou was to relegate Cook to the

NSW Cup feeder team for the first time since 2016. However, Cook embraced the

opportunity, leading the side to a 24-12 victory over Newtown and even scoring a try himself.

Having previously expressed feelings of frustration and shock at his demotion, Cook approached his return to reserve

grade with a more positive outlook, acknowledging the enjoyable aspect of the experience.

Cook stated on Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast: “Meeting some of those

guys back at the Cup makes a big difference. They were amazing back there, and I had a great time.

“Newtown was good, and they are obviously a feeder club for the Sharks.”

Cook went on, “It felt good to win, cross the tryline, and just enjoy some football.

“I hope I’ve done enough to try and push back into the first-grade squad too,” he

continued, adding that he anticipates speaking with coach Jason Demetriou

today regarding his chances of playing in the NRL again when they take on the Storm in Melbourne on Anzac day.

Despite the Rabbitohs suffering their fifth consecutive loss in first-grade,

which has left them at the bottom of the NRL ladder, there were encouraging

signs that prompted club officials to stand by embattled coach Jason Demetriou.

Cook expressed relief at the decision, commending Demetriou for his handling of the ongoing speculation surrounding

his position, including his abrupt exit from a press conference after just 27 seconds earlier in the week.

“Last week, there was a lot of noise surrounding the team,” Cook remarked.

“But JD has handled himself admirably, maintaining focus amidst the external distractions.”

“While the recent result wasn’t enough to silence all the criticism, it’s reassuring to see the media attention ease off, allowing

us to concentrate on our game. We believe in the talent and capabilities of our squad.”

“I’m pleased for JD,” Cook continued, alluding to reports of former assistant

coach David Furner potentially rejoining the Rabbitohs. “There’s speculation about

Furnsey’s return, and if it happens, it will be a valuable addition to our coaching staff during this challenging period.”
