Unbelievable:LIONS GM Brad Holmes issue an Apology and send a PSA for trading down

The Detroit Lions find themselves in a distinctive position with the hosting of

the 2024 NFL Draft. Holding the No. 29 overall pick, at the end of the first round,

the team may keep their fans waiting eagerly into the late hours of the night for their first selection.

The Lions could trade back into the second round, so there’s no guarantee that they even make a first-round

selection. By doing this, they would be able to gather resources that will enable them to bolster their roster with talent.

However, it might disappoint the fans who gathered in downtown Detroit with high hopes of witnessing the Lions make a first-round selection.

General manager Brad Holmes acknowledged this sentiment and

emphasized that while he aims to please the fans, his ultimate priority is the well-being of the organization.

“That’s something we have to consider in making decisions for the organization,” Holmes explained during his pre-draft media briefing. “If it aligns with our

objectives and is the best course of action, then we have to prioritize the organization’s interests. For instance, if a

situation arises where fans have eagerly waited all night for our pick, but we receive an offer that is too compelling to

pass up, we have to make the right decision. While we don’t expect immediate forgiveness in that moment,

we hope our fans will understand. We’ll strive to earn their forgiveness over time, especially once the season begins

and the selected player proves his worth. I fully empathize with our fans’ sentiments.”

Holmes and his team face the challenge of assembling another standout class,

having set a high standard in 2023 with the picks of Brian Branch, Jahmyr Gibbs, Jack Campbell, and Sam LaPorta.

With this year’s Draft taking place in Detroit, it presents an ideal chance for

Holmes to acquire the necessary pieces to enhance his organization.

The atmosphere in Detroit is poised to be electrifying, with the downtown area already transformed into an NFL-centric

event. Businesses in the city anticipate an economic upswing, while the Lions promise fans an exhilarating experience.

However, whether this moment unfolds in the first round remains uncertain. Holmes quipped that he would send out a memo to apologize to fans if he ultimately decides to trade out of the team’s current draft position.

“Of course, I’m thrilled about the Draft being held in Detroit. It’s an exciting opportunity for our franchise, our city, and for people worldwide to converge on downtown Detroit,” Holmes expressed. “With multiple major NFL markets nearby, I anticipate a bustling atmosphere. I’m particularly excited for the local businesses; it’s going to be quite an event. That being said, I understand the ideal scenario: make the pick after fans have been waiting all night, and everyone is delighted. But if it’s in the best interest of the organization, we have to prioritize that. In that case, I’ll send out a public service announcement and extend my apologies.”
