Sad News:so sad to say goodbye as Jahrome Hughes is leaving to …

Cameron Smith has dismissed speculation surrounding Jahrome Hughes potentially leaving the Melbourne Storm, stating that there have been no indications from the Storm

halfback about his desire to depart. This comes after Broncos legend Corey Parker suggested on SEN radio that there were

rumors of Hughes considering a move to a Queensland-based club to be closer to his and his wife’s family.

Hughes is currently contracted with the Storm until the end of 2026, and reports

suggest that the club has initiated negotiations to extend his contract for an

additional two years. Parker mentioned, “I’ve heard rumors that a star player in the game is looking to return home to Queensland and be with family,”

referring to Hughes. “Whether this happens at the end of his current contract or not remains uncertain. It’s

just speculation at this point, but keep an eye on this situation. We’ll have to wait and see how things unfold.”

These statements indicate that while there may be talks about Hughes’ future,

nothing concrete has emerged, and Hughes himself has not expressed any intention to leave the Storm.

Hughes has refuted the rumors, and Cameron Smith, a revered figure at the Storm, believes there’s no indication that

the New Zealand-born halfback has any intentions of leaving. Speaking on SEN, Smith noted, “His performance on the

field speaks volumes, and I believe he’s been one of, if not the best player for them this year.”

Smith empathized with the desire to be closer to family, particularly when starting one’s own family, acknowledging

the challenges he faced while living away from family during his playing career. He mentioned encountering Hughes

recently and observed that he appeared content. “I’ve known his wife for some time, and they seemed genuinely happy

when I caught up with them earlier this year. I understand the longing to return home, so we’ll have to see how this unfolds.”

Regarding the possibility of Hughes seeking a release for family reasons, Smith acknowledged that the Storm

would likely support him. “He holds significant importance to the club, and both he and his wife are integral parts of

the Storm community,” Smith stated. “The club has a history of respecting players’ personal decisions, and if

Hughes were to request a release for genuine family reasons, I don’t anticipate the club standing in his way.”

Hughes, originally from New Zealand, relocated to the Gold Coast during his

teenage years, and his spouse also hails from Queensland. Before gaining prominence with the Melbourne Storm,

he briefly played for the Gold Coast Titans in 2013 and the North Queensland Cowboys in 2016.

Responding to Parker’s assertions, Hughes dismissed them as mere rumors, emphasizing his attachment to

Melbourne. “I’m not aware of the story, but I don’t know what they’re referring to,” he stated. “While I did spend time up

there before, Melbourne feels like home now. My family is here, including my mother and sisters, which adds to the

sense of belonging. Although my wife is from Queensland, she’s also enjoying life here, so Melbourne is home for us.”
