Sad News: Seattle kraken Coach Dave Hasktol is sacked following ..

Seattle Kraken general manager Ron Francis indicated that the coaching staff, including head coach Dave Hakstol, is currently undergoing evaluation following a disappointing season that saw the team miss the playoffs by a significant margin.

When directly asked about Hakstol’s future with the team during a season-ending press conference on Monday, Francis stopped short of confirming whether Hakstol would return for a fourth season as head coach.

Hakstol acknowledged the ongoing evaluation process, stating, “You’re going to read into it one way or the other, but this is the process we do every year and that’s what we’re in right now.”

The Kraken struggled offensively throughout the season, particularly after a pivotal loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in overtime on March 12, which effectively dashed their playoff hopes. Their performance dwindled further, managing just six wins in their final 20 games to finish with 81 points in the standings, and suffering seven shutouts over the course of the year.

This decline marked a significant setback from the previous season, where the team reached Game 7 of the second round against the Dallas Stars.

Francis emphasized that the front office is currently analyzing the reasons behind the disappointing season, noting that despite ranking in the top 10 defensively, their lack of playoff berth was influenced by a notable decrease in shooting percentage and goals scored compared to the previous season.

Additionally, Francis highlighted the team’s injury woes, citing a higher frequency and severity of injuries compared to the previous season, which affected team chemistry and lineup consistency.

“This was kind of a unique season, and that’s what we kind of got to dig through,” Francis remarked. He cited examples such as Andre Burakovsky’s groin injury and Jordan Eberle’s broken hand as contributing factors to the team’s challenges throughout the season.

The Seattle Kraken achieved victories over formidable opponents such as the Boston Bruins, who ended the season as the top seed in each conference, as well as the Florida Panthers, Winnipeg Jets, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, and Tampa Bay Lightning. However, they struggled to consistently defeat teams ranked lower in the standings. Losses to the Sharks, Canadiens, and Arizona Coyotes, as well as setbacks against the Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks, all of whom finished below Seattle in the standings, underscored their inconsistency.

General manager Ron Francis acknowledged the team’s streaky performance, leading to inconsistency throughout the season. He attributed some losing streaks to injuries and highlighted the challenge of maintaining chemistry and line consistency. Unlike the previous season when the team had established lines and familiar chemistry, this season saw constant lineup adjustments. However, Francis expressed the desire to return to the cohesive identity of playing fast and hard that characterized their successful previous campaign.

The Kraken concluded the season with the eighth-worst record in the NHL, amassing 81 points with a 34-35-13 record. With a six percent chance of securing the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL Draft Lottery, scheduled for early May, the team looks ahead to potential opportunities for improvement in the offseason.
