So sad :Daniel Farke is disappointed about what the EFL has done to Leeds United that is affecting their promotion chances

The timing of the extended period of rest and recuperation couldn’t have been more opportune for Leeds, following a string of disappointing performances resulting in just five points from as many matches since the international break.

Facing the necessity of securing three points at the Riverside, Leeds emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter, with Leicester City defeating West Brom and Ipswich Town not playing.

Following a dry spell for Leeds’ forwards, Crysencio Summerville (2), Patrick Bamford, and Willy Gnonto all found the net, marking a timely return to form.

However, concerns arise for Daniel Farke regarding defensive lapses, as Illan Meslier’s performance in goal was less than satisfactory.

Leeds’ celebration of their victory at the Riverside is short-lived, as they face a

quick turnaround for their next game against Queens Park Rangers.

Originally, Leeds had a six-day gap between the two matches, but this has

been reduced to just three days due to Sky Sports broadcasting both games.

During this stage of the season, when injuries are common, such limited rest

time is less than ideal. However, Leeds can still capitalize on the opportunity to exert pressure on their rivals.

Despite this, Jon Newsome, a pundit on BBC Radio Leeds’ post-match show,

criticized the scheduling, describing it as ‘disgusting’ that Farke’s team has so little time between matches.

He commented, “It’s a tough situation for a manager. If he doesn’t make changes

and someone gets injured, he’s blamed. It’s about preservation. He’s already

thinking about Friday, as we all know. The fact that we’re playing Monday and Friday is really unfair.”

While everyone else enjoys a standard Saturday-to-Saturday schedule, we’re facing a tight turnaround with back-to-

back away games at Boro and in London, all because of TV scheduling. It’s unfortunate and quite taxing.”

Despite only entering the game as a substitute in the final 10 minutes, Dan

James suffered a potentially season-ending injury at Boro. Leeds haven’t had the opportunity to assess the 26-year-old

properly, but he seemed in considerable discomfort, clutching his ribs/core area during stoppage time.

With Connor Roberts already sidelined for Friday’s match, Leeds are facing a

shortage of available players, and the short turnaround means James will have little time to recover. Farke didn’t

express much optimism post-match, stating, “Not so much Joe Rodon, just a knock on his calf. Daniel James is a

bigger concern because it could involve his core muscle. It’s bad news if it’s a major injury.”

The Championship title race and the battle for automatic promotion to the Premier League took another twist on Tuesday evening as Leicester City demolished Southampton 5-0, widening the gap on Leeds United.

Despite contrasting form leading into the match at The Riverside on Monday night, Leeds emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over Middlesbrough, emphasizing that Daniel Farke’s team remains firmly in contention for promotion.

In the subsequent clash between Leicester and Southampton on Tuesday, the Saints needed a victory to maintain any slim hopes of securing a top-two finish. However, Leicester dominated proceedings, particularly in the latter stages of the game.

Although the match remained tight for the first hour, Leicester took the lead in the 25th minute through Abdul Fatawu. Despite Southampton’s efforts, Leicester gradually asserted their dominance and sealed the win emphatically.

Abdul Fatawu’s hat-trick and a goal each from Jamie Vardy and Wilfried Ndidi secured the comprehensive victory for Leicester, with Fatawu deservedly earning the man of the match accolade.

Leicester’s triumph sees them extend their lead at the top of the Championship table to four points with two games remaining, amassing 94 points from 44 matches. Meanwhile, Leeds maintains their position in second with 90 points from the same number of games.

In third place, Ipswich Town holds a game in hand over the top two, sitting on 89 points. However, their next fixture is after Leeds’ clash with QPR on Friday night, as Ipswich faces Hull City on Saturday.
