West Indian wicketkeeper-batsman
Devon Thomas has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years after
admitting to breaching anti-corruption rules in multiple cricket leagues.
The 34-year-old, who represented the West Indies in all forms, didn’t play for
his country’s squad until August of 2022. Throughout his career, which included
12 T20Is, 21 ODIs, and 1
Test, Thomas was well-versed in the fight against
corruption. The ICC claims that this makes his violations even more severe.
According to Alex Marshall, General Manager of the Integrity Unit of the ICC,
“Devon attended numerous anti-corruption education sessions and knew
his obligations under the Anti-Corruption Codes.” “He didn’t fulfill these
responsibilities in three distinct franchise leagues. This suspension ought
to convey a clear message that corruption in our sport will not go
unpunished and will be handled with force.
Devon Thomas breached codes of LPL, Abu Dhabi T10 and CPL
The investigation revealed that Thomas’s violations encompassed several offenses.
In Sri Lanka Premier League 2021, he was found guilty of attempting to fix matches and failing to report corrupt
approaches. Additionally, he obstructed the anti-
corruption investigation by
concealing or tampering with documents and providing inaccurate information.
Similar breaches occurred during his
participation in the Abu Dhabi T10 League and
Caribbean Premier League
in 2021, where he again failed to report corrupt approaches.
