Former Napoli striker German Denis has disclosed that Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi declined to engage in

negotiations with Inter last season due to his strong allegiance as “a great Milan fan.” According to the ex-Serie A star, De Zerbi, who was his former teammate,

was approached by Inter during a period when Simone Inzaghi’s position as coach was precarious.

Despite Inzaghi leading Inter to victory in the Coppa Italia and securing a spot in the Champions League final during the

2022-23 season, the team struggled in Serie A, losing 12 league matches and finishing third behind Lazio and Napoli. Denis, who played alongside De Zerbi at

Napoli during the first half of the 2009-10 season, has revealed that De Zerbi declined to enter into discussions with Inter at that time.

Denis revealed to Sportitalia, as cited by FcInter1908, that when Inzaghi’s position seemed precarious last season, Inter reached out to De Zerbi. However, Denis

asserted that De Zerbi turned down the offer from Inter due to his strong allegiance as a Milan fan.

Inzaghi’s fortunes have changed drastically this season, with his Inter side

clinching the Serie A title with five games remaining, marking their 20th Scudetto win.

De Zerbi is reportedly being considered for the Milan managerial position in the 2024-25 season. However, he is currently

under contract with Brighton, which includes a significant release clause. As a result, Sergio Conceiçao and Paulo

Fonseca are believed to be the frontrunners to succeed Stefano Pioli, as indicated by several Italian sources.
