So sad:West Ham have hijack Leeds United deal as ..

West Ham United are reportedly preparing to make a substantial initial offer for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, amid interest from Leeds United and another major club.

O’Riley has excelled for the Scottish Premier League champions this season, recording 37 goal involvements in 48 matches across all competitions.

This impressive performance has drawn the attention of several clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Leeds United.

Celtic turned down a bid for their star midfielder in January, but Atletico Madrid are expected to renew their interest in the Danish international, who has become a highly sought-after target for ambitious clubs across Europe.

Leeds United are expected to join the English clubs pursuing Celtic playmaker

Matt O’Riley if they triumph over Southampton in the play-off final this weekend.

O’Riley has already caught the eye of Premier League clubs West Ham, Brighton, and Everton.

It is understood that Celtic are open to selling O’Riley if the right offer comes in and will be unable to prevent his departure if a substantial bid is made.

O’Riley was acquired by Celtic from MK Dons in 2022 for a modest £1.5 million, but the club is unlikely to entertain any offers below £15 million. Reports

indicate they might hold out for a fee close to the Scottish record £25 million received from Arsenal for Kieran Tierney in 2019.

Although Brendan Rodgers is reluctant to lose O’Riley, Celtic might find it hard to resist a particularly lucrative offer.

Celtic, bolstered by a substantial financial boost from competing in the

restructured Champions League, are not under immediate pressure to sell their star players. This allows them to demand

a record fee for O’Riley, who can further enhance his reputation in Germany this summer as part of Denmark’s Euro 2024 squad.

Leeds United will need significant reinforcements regardless of whether they achieve Premier League promotion

this season or need to regroup next year, but they may find themselves priced out of acquiring O’Riley.

West Ham have demonstrated ambition, indicating they might be prepared to

match or exceed any offers from Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Everton’s transfer activity is expected to depend on the timing and approval of a potential takeover bid by the Premier League.
