Just in: Aston villa have hijack deal of a top German winger who Unia Emery admires alot

According to a recent report from Bild (via Sport Witness), Aston Villa are up against strong competition in their pursuit of Mainz winger Brajan Gruda this summer. The report notes that Aston Villa will have to contend with Newcastle United, Liverpool, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, and Borussia Dortmund in the battle to sign the German winger later this year.

The 19-year-old had a solid season in the Bundesliga, delivering impressive performances on the right side of Mainz’s attack. Gruda scored four goals and provided three assists in 29 matches across various competitions this season.

The talented teenager has been effective in the final third, averaging 1.1 shots, 1.5

key passes, and 2.5 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, he needs to improve his passing accuracy in the

opposition’s half, having completed 71.4% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).

Gruda’s current contract with Mainz runs until the summer of 2026, which

could complicate Aston Villa’s efforts to acquire him at a reduced price in the upcoming transfer window.

Gruda is adept at dribbling and can make dynamic runs down the flanks. He

possesses the vision to create promising opportunities for his teammates in the final third and can shoot with power and

precision from long range. While he has added some goals and assists to his game this season, he needs to improve his link-up play in the opponent’s half.

Gruda primarily plays as a right winger but is also capable of operating as a number ten or center-forward if needed. He would add significant firepower to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s attacking options.

Gruda has the potential to provide strong competition for Leon Bailey at the West Midlands club in the upcoming seasons.

Therefore, it would be a smart move for Aston Villa to intensify their efforts to sign this talented winger this summer.
