Sad News:Kirk Cousin Tampering investigation case has taken a new twist that will affect Minnesota Vikings ..

How the Minnesota Vikings handled the quarterback position and what that meant for Kirk Cousins—who ultimately signed with the Atlanta Falcons—was

one of their main off-season concerns. However, prior to the official negotiation window opening, there were some illegal flirtations between Cousins and the

Falcons that were brought to light. The NFL launched an investigation into potential tampering by Atlanta as a result of those allegations.

Player agents have a brief window of time before the start of free agency to negotiate contracts with teams that are interested. The purpose of this “early

negotiating window” or “legal tampering period” is to allow pending free agents to assess the market before making any commitments. According to Adam

Schefter, there’s a chance that Cousins and the Falcons illegally negotiated both before and during that window. These claims should be addressed this week.

It seems like the Atlanta Falcons were trying to tamper with Kirk Cousins rather aggressively in this instance. In

addition to bringing in his new quarterback very early (perhaps even at the instigation of his employer), Cousins

acknowledged that he was meeting and conferring with coaches and medical trainers prior to and during the contract window.

It will be interesting to see how the league handles the Atlanta Falcons tampering incident. Most of the time, the

choice is subjective and has no predetermined guidelines. There was some expectation heading into the 2024

NFL Draft that the league would make the Falcons trade first-round selections with the Vikings, moving Minnesota up three spots to No. 8.

That obviously didn’t happen because, by draft night, when the Falcons selected Michael Penix Jr. to replace Cousins, there was still no resolution. In the end,

the Vikings traded up to pick No. 10 and selected the future J. Q. But what kind of penalty will the NFL impose on the Atlanta Falcons now that disciplinary

action is prepared to be taken? More importantly, will it have any positive impact on the Minnesota Vikings? We don’t know that much, but Schefter is

being informed that the Falcons’ manipulation of Saquon Barkley will result in more consequences than what the Eagles experience.

Following the contract that Atlanta had offered, Kirk Cousins was never going to stay in Minnesota, and general manager

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah knew better than to offer the same assurances. That doesn’t mean Minnesota didn’t try to sign him,

though, and it would have been harder if Cousins had been engaging in illegal talks with the Falcons and possibly other teams all the time.

Kirk Cousins was a high-profile addition to the Atlanta Falcons, who had hoped that having him at quarterback would propel them to the Super Bowl. Though

that is still to be determined, the manner they approached the transaction might end up costing them—and hopefully helping the Vikings in some way. While

learning the outcome of the situation is just one more piece of the puzzle for the Minnesota Vikings offseason, it will put an end to a long-running plot.
