Done deal: Why Bucks resign Marvin Ham from Lakers…

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham is set to join the Milwaukee Bucks coaching staff as a top assistant to Doc Rivers. Ham previously

served as the Lakers head coach for two seasons, following a four-season stint in Milwaukee as an assistant coach under Mike Budenholzer. He also spent three seasons there as a player.

Ham led the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals in his first season, but

the second season saw challenges arise. According to Shams Charania and Jovan Buha of The Athletic, during a difficult

stretch where the Lakers lost nine of twelve games, there was a growing disconnect between Ham and the players. Much of the criticism was

directed at Ham’s frequent changes in lineup combinations, using nineteen different combinations throughout the season. One particularly criticized lineup

included LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Cam Reddish, Taurean Prince, and Jarred Vanderbilt. Over his two seasons with the Lakers, Ham compiled a 90-74 record.

Ham is returning to Milwaukee, where he initially joined Budenholzer from Atlanta as an assistant coach.

His move appears to have the approval of Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who spoke highly of Ham after he was hired by the Lakers.
