Michael Beale Is Agreeing With Tony Mowbray By Doing This – Former Sunderland Star

Gary Bennett, a former player for Sunderland, believes that Michael Beale’s recent selection of the team—which included benching strikers—demonstrates his agreement with Tony Mowbray that the Black Cats’ forwards are not yet ready.

After losing out on important and reliable goal scorer Ross Stewart, Sunderland brought in a number of talented forwards in the summer, but former manager Mowbray was unable to get them going.

Beale chose to utilize midfielders as attackers in the final two games, leaving the strikers on the bench.

Bennett thinks Beale’s choice of starting eleven indicates that he concurs with former Sunderland manager Mowbray that their available strikers aren’t ready.

The former Black Cats player also mentioned that if the midfielders continue to be selected before the strikers in the starting lineup, the strikers will start to wonder why they are still with the team.

Bennett responded on BBC Radio Newcastle when asked if Beale’s choice of starting lineup indicates that he

concurs with Mowbray that the strikers are not yet ready: “Yes, he agrees, with

the way he is picking the team, is agreeing with him.”

“What actions will we take about the strikers?

“That is the issue, and you must also place yourself in that circumstance.

“As a striker, you may be wondering if you really need to be here if you are sitting on the bench and midfield players are getting ahead of you and you aren’t getting a game.”

It’s unclear if Beale would give any of the new forwards a chance to shine before Sunderland’s match against Rotherham United on Friday.
